On May 12, 1989, The Bar Association of the City of Richmond was organized as a corporation whose purpose was to serve as a voluntary bar association for members of the legal profession.

The Association recommends and supports for judicial office those persons who by their character, temperament, professional aptitude and experience have demonstrated their special qualifications for judicial office. Its members developed the Plan of the Association for the Endorsement of Candidates for Judicial Office.

The members of the Richmond Bar, believing it to be their obligation to conduct themselves professionally at all times, developed their own Principles of Professionalism and committed themselves to abide by these principles.
