“Mediation Strategies & Insights: From the Statement to the Settlement”

The panel brings together practitioners and mediators from the public and private sectors to share and discuss their views on subjects like mediation statements (and the exchange thereof), opening statements, communication with clients during mediation (by mediators and counsel), negotiation tactics, remote vs. in-person mediations, methods for mediators to drive resolutions, term sheets vs. fully executed agreements, and other nuts and bolts issues that frequently divide practitioners and mediators. Joining the panel will be:

• Hon. Paul W. Grimm, mediator for the JAMS ADR consortium and former United States District Judge and United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Maryland;

• Zhanna Meggison, Supervisory ADR Coordinator for the EEOC’s Charlotte District Office, which includes the Richmond local office;

• Joan McKenna, Partner in the Richmond office of O’Hagan Meyer, where she represents employers in a variety of employment disputes, including claims under Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA and state fair employment laws; and

• Matthew LaGarde, Partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Katz Banks Kumin, where he represents whistleblowers and employees who experience retaliation after reporting unlawful activity.
